New TH!NK city coming out in 2007

New THNK city A306.JPG

OK, I confess to being a TH!NK fan after driving one for a year, but the new model is looking very promising all the same. The lush new photography on the website says to me that there's a much more grown-up approach to design going on at Think Nordic.

According to the website, development work on the second generation TH!NK city is nearly complete, and the plan is to put the vehicle into series production initially at the facility in Norway.  (24 April 2007 update - my husband Ash is just back from a trip to their facility in Aurskog and says they're still in pre-production engineering.)

They're not yet taking orders, but you are invited to express your interest in this model by submitting your details here. I'm not sure I like their colour range though - they all look like the colours you find on poisonous frogs ... orange, black, yellow, red and cobalt. A mint green, pale blue or lavender would be nice options for the ladies like myself who will undoubtedly end up driving them. (Ash has just told me that apparently they're offering all sorts of options to personalise the interior - I like the sound of that!)

Back to the business stuff. Serious industrial or commercial parties who wish to pursue serial production possibilities for the TH!NK city are asked to contact the Think Technology Sales and Marketing Department (+47 63854500).

I submitted my details re the Think Nordic and also asked about the possibility of a 4 seater. I heard back very quickly that they are planning to launch the New Think City in the UK in the 2nd half of 2007 and were considering an option of a 2+2!
Sounds great to me. Let's hope enough people express their interest.

I just wonder what the price would be for both, the 2- and 4-seater. The car feels like perfect for me.

Apart from the car itself which will be for sale the battery itself will NOT be sold to the people buying and the savings you make with cheap electricity for fuel will be lost to the battery lease scheme at Th!nk. At an estimated £80 a month for the leased battery with no option to buy it, it looks like this great looking EV will still tie the customer in to an expensive energy supplier, except instead of paying £1000 a year for petrol itll be £1000 a year for your battery. Still Id rather finance the Norwegian economy than Middle Eastern terrorists..
A truly brave EV company would at least offer the option to buy the whole car with battery included, even if the price was double to pay for the battery. Its not like we dont pay to replace a whole car now when a petrol engine is too costly to repair, a depreciation cost which I suspect will be far more than the replacement costs for EV batteries given that as production volumes increase, prices for batteries will decrease. Five years down the line the batteries in this car will not be half what they cost now, yet unless you own the battery your car is useless without it so the lease dealer has you by the 'nads. Its like the oil cartels being replaced by battery cartels - we have to make sure we can buy the whole car PLUS battery with a basic guarantee for 3-5 years on the goods.
