Italian EV's totally annoying Flash intro
You can see a new electric city car at what is possibly the most annoying website I've seen in months. If you can bear to sit through its self-indulgent Flash intro you get glimpses of the Italian two-seater citycar that may shortly be imported to the UK by the NICE Car Company.
Or you can get a better look at it from Autobloggreen's Photoshopping efforts. Tazzari Group's Zero seems a bit on the chunky side, but Italian design usually comes up with the goods, so I'll hold off on criticism until I get a better look at it.
With a range of 95 miles and top speed of 56 mph, the Zero got EV fans into a bit of a froth by claiming it will take only 45 minutes to recharge its li-ion batteries, but it turns out that you need a 3-phase power supply to do that. Charging via a normal domestic socket will be more like 10 hours.
No mention quite yet of when this car will be available, but in the meantime NICE Car Company will be adding MyCar, Fiat e500 and Ze-O to its showroom windows. You can check the spec on the MyCar at my EV Comparison Guide, but give me a couple of hours to add the other two. It's getting harder to keep it up to date, but that's a good problem to have.
By the way, Ash has just phoned from his trip to the National Low Carbon Vehicle event hosted by Cenex at Millbrook Proving Ground. Apparently they expected to get about 300 attendees and instead more than 800 showed up, so I guess our government's £100 million fund for developing an electric car delivery program will help to focus all their minds just a bit.
