Peugeot's electric car you can tweet from

The BB1 from Peugeot is still a concept car, but I so want one. It's got the sort of design grotesqueness that only the French can create, but I still want one. Autoblog calls it 'the logical result of a one night stand between a Subaru SVX and a Peel 50,' and I still want one.

Peugeot's BB1 concept carMy enthusiasm for it even overrides the Peugeot PR-speak: "Its mother is a scooter, its father is a car." Like that's a good thing? Peugeot says the BB1 is built on values of "liberty, optimism and altruism," - what guff. I guess they mean it's a car that won't hurt the planet.

The feature that will grab the Twitterverse is that it comes with an iPod dock carved into the steering wheel. That connects your music to the car's entertainment system and feeds data into a centrally mounted display with copious fiddling opportunities - radio, navigation AND internet. The data connection is achieved by tethering your iPhone to the dock which allows the car to access the web at broadband speeds and show data on the dashboard display via its onboard computer. It's enough to make you relish the prospect of a traffic jam.

Peugeot claims that the BB1 will have a range of about 120km with a top speed of 90kmph. Using two Michelin in-wheel motors it can even manage a respectable 0-30kmph in less than 3 seconds. But who'd want to rush around in this uber cute ugly duckling of an electric car? Like they do in this video, I'd be taking my time so that everyone could admire as I go by in this fine example of French automotive weirdness.
