Hold Tight! The US TSA is Hitting the Lithium nail on the head

The TSA is responding to a report from the National Transportation Safety Board that a fire which started in an aircraft at Philadelphia National Airport in 2007 was possibly started by igniting lithium batteries.

Well, this is a lesson for the BEV product planners and engineers, as this ruling creates a widespread public awareness of the dangers of lithium ion battery packs in cars, trucks and buses, be they HEVs or BEVs.

Mygreenwheels comes of age in the Times” Paris” style!

It was a pleasant surprise to find this site acknowledged as an authority on BEVs by that iconic bastion of the world’s media, the Times of London. What an uplifting start to 2008 especially as this site has never been officially “launched”! Better still was the news that Bertrand Delanöe, the Mayor of Paris, announced his intention to unleash none other than 2000 BEVs onto the Paris road system in an attempt to reduce the chronic traffic congestion that one is familiar with in that city.

Nissan to unveil the Mixim 3 seater B-EV Concept at Frankfurt 2007

The strikingly designed 3 seater Mixim B-EV Concept Car from Nissan is to be revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show, which runs 13- 23 September 2007. The unusual seating configuration sits the driver ahead of the two passenger seats and there is a fourth seat set behind the driving position designed for occasional use. This concept is designed to appeal to a younger audience who are familiar with digital gaming.

So GM wants to offer EV Battery Rental

Call me cynical, but if I was a betting man, I would say this is really just a PR puff riding on the back of Jan Olaf’s Business 2.0 article in the States last month. The thought of GM actually getting ready to engineer the Volt in time for a 2010 launch does not ring true given their current finances and the mountain of costly development work needed to put a volume production Volt on the road.

Media pressure focusses on the poor old Riva

The issue here is that the media is comparing apples with pears. The Riva is a quadracycle and was not engineered to meet FMVSS or European road safety requirements.
