Renault's £6K EV - is it just a fancy scooter?
At last ... a concept car that's made it into production. While the reviewer at Car magazine refers to Renault's 2009 concept EV having much more funky features, the production version of the Twizy at the 2010 Paris Motor Show gets his thumbs-up all the same. The Renault Twizy is a tandem style 2-seater that will go on sale in the UK in early 2012 for around £6,000.
Jaguar's gas-turbine boosted electric supercar
I have to endorse the AutoWeek editors' unanimous choice of Best in Show at this week's Paris Motor Show. On this occasion they've actually picked an electric car, but - as you'd expect - this is no ordinary inner city runabout. Their vote for Best in Show went deservedly to Jaguar for the C-X75, an electric supercar created to celebrate the marque's 75th anniversary. The 'c' represents a conceptual vision of Jaguar's potential future, so here's what got the AutoWeek boys in such a froth about this car.
For a start, just imagine how much torque you're getting from 4 x 195bhp electric in-wheel motors
Luxury electric car from Nissan's Infiniti stable
Nissan has released a teaser sketch of an electric Infiniti luxury car that it says it will launch in 2013. While rarely seen in Europe, the Infiniti is known for its high standards, so expectations will be high for this EV's range and power; and the styling in particular will be crucial if it's not to undermine its parent brand.
500bhp electric supercar from Lexus
It uses in-wheel motors of course and a switch that lets the driver select between four driving programs to let them regulate battery use. But I'm guessing that anyone lucky enough to get one of these will just plonk it straight into supersport mode and that's where it'll stay. You really don't want to be seen tootling about in a machine like this
Nissan boss isn't alone in backing Toyota's move to invest in electric cars
Ghosn feels auto makers need to take a three-pronged approach to addressing the new market that is unfolding in the age of mass produced EVs. "One, they need to be in all technologies from electric vehicles to diesel; two, they need to be in emerging markets, especially China, and 3, they need to have vehicles in each segment." Funny no mention of eco-auto-booming India.
