Ford, Nissan/ Renault and Mercedes/Daimler Sign 3 way Strategic Co-operation on Hydrogen Fuel Cell EVs

This move is driven by the logic of standardisation and spreading development costs between these 3 volume automotive OEMs.

Luxury electric car from Nissan's Infiniti stable

Nissan has released a teaser sketch of an electric Infiniti luxury car that it says it will launch in 2013. While rarely seen in Europe, the Infiniti is known for its high standards, so expectations will be high for this EV's range and power; and  the styling in particular will be crucial if it's not to undermine its parent brand.

Nissan boss isn't alone in backing Toyota's move to invest in electric cars

Ghosn feels auto makers need to take a three-pronged approach to addressing the new market that is unfolding in the age of mass produced EVs. "One, they need to be in all technologies from electric vehicles to diesel; two, they need to be in emerging markets, especially China, and 3, they need to have vehicles in each segment."  Funny no mention of eco-auto-booming India.
